Hurricane Irene is coming. It’s gotten lots of coverage, and by the time it reaches my area it’s expected to be a Category 2, transitioning to a Category 1. While Annapolis isn’t on the direct path for the storm, we’re close enough that they’re projecting up to a foot of rain and a storm surge up to 4 feet high, which has the potential to do a lot of damage. It also has the potential to produce some really interesting imagery.
I’ll admit it: I’m kind of a weather geek. The last time I encountered a named storm, I was taking pictures and videos of stuff that wasn’t even that exciting. I was stuck on watch, and it was the best I could do in weather that was barely a tropical storm by the time it reached me. This time it’s likely to be different.
So, I’ll be posting pictures, videos, etc. throughout the storm. Some of it could be awesome, and some might only be awesome to me, but I’ll at least have fun doing it. Check back periodically for updates.
I’ll also be live streaming during portions of the storm, which you can watch at my live page. I’ll post on Facebook and Twitter when I’m going to be turning on the stream.

Obviously the storm has passed without much incident. Still no power in my neighborhood, so last night I fell asleep to the sound of crickets and generators.
Given that we haven’t had power since around 2000 on Saturday, I haven’t been able to get any of my videos uploaded. I should be able to get them put up today though, since my office has power – and my new work computer comes today!
I’ll update this post (likely for the last time) later this afternoon with videos and pictures that have not yet been put up.

All clear. Lots of trees down and debris, but no damage to our property and only minor damage to friends’ property.

After some television and a nap this afternoon while the mellow part of the storm came through, it’s finally starting to build and we’re seeing some stronger winds and rain. Still not raining yet, but the wind has definitely picked up. I went down the street to make sure our neighbor’s boat was secured, and then came back and did some final prep around the house. Now we’re just waiting for things to start.

The weather outside remains warm and beautiful, though it’s increasingly humid as the tropical air is pushed north. We’re prepared with water, food, charged batteries, radios, first aid kits, flashlights, candles & lamps, rain gear, full gas tanks, and some clothes pulled together in case we have to leave.
