I’ll Be Counter-Protesting the Westboro Baptist Church on Thursday

The Westboro Baptist Church is going to be protesting at Meade High School on Thursday morning.  In a press release they stated that they’re targeting Meade because of a large number of homosexual students.  The school is part of the Anne Arundel County Public School system, though it primarily serves the military community of Fort Meade.

I’ll be attending a counter-protest on Thursday morning in support of the students and tolerance.  It starts at 6:30am and lasts for an hour.  I’ll be taking photos & video while I’m there.  If you’re around and available Thursday morning, come join us.  Let’s provide a buffer between kids trying to get an education and the hateful rhetoric of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Update: The Anne Arundel County Police Department has released details about road closures during the protest.

    The children will be protected by the police. Your counter-protest only serves to give WBC more attention. That is what they want.

    The less publicity, the better.

    Just sayin’.

    That’s a fair point, and I realize that police will be protecting the kids, but that’s a physical protection. The aim of the counter protests is to provide a different message to students who, given the population of the school, may very well have experienced or have close friends who have experienced the WBC’s protesting at military funerals. It’s to show community support, and countering the message of the WBC.
