This weekend I’ll make my first trip of the season to Boston Island. It will mostly consist of cutting down trees and other maintenance, but any trip to the Island is well worth it. As I usually do, I’ll make an effort to post pictures and updates while I’m there. I’ll also be posting stuff via Twitter. The term “hypercar” is harder to pin down, perhaps because it’s a relatively new concept. Covered by this term is a Swedish company that manufactures some of the fastest, most powerful and most technically marvelous vehicles in the world - that most people have never heard of.
Today marks a major milestone in the evolution of the Internet - one that most people probably won’t even notice, though it has an impact on every single device on the net. Today is the worldwide launch of version 6 of the Internet Protocol, or IPv6. Every device on the Internet needs an Internet Protocol, or IP, address in order to communicate. Think of it like a street address or a phone number for your computer or mobile device.

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the Z4 coupe, specifically the Z4M Coupe. It’s one of my all-time favorite cars, both in performance and - perhaps most notably - styling. So when BMW unveiled the Zagato Coupe yesterday at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, it was love at first sight. They’ve managed to take all of my favorite design elements of the Z4M Coupe, combine them with some modern BMW design language, and add a little retro flare to create one of the most stunning sports coupes I’ve ever seen.
A couple of years ago some hackers started distributing a quirky little virus that would change the DNS servers your computer uses. The people responsible were located by the FBI and their data gathering system was terminated. Despite this you could still be infected, and affected, by the virus. For those unaware, DNS stands for Domain Name Service, and is the system that tells your computer where a web address is located.
Google has just released the first video showing off what their long-rumored wearable augmented reality tech might look like. Simply put, it looks amazing. The idea that news, weather, communications, geographic-specific overlays, etc. can all appear seamlessly in front of your eyes as you go about your business is just about the ultimate in personal computing. I will admit, it also seems super nerdy. However, so did the portable computer, the pager, the PDA, the cell phone, and numerous other technologies when they first came along.
Marketplace Tech reported today that a UK insurance company called Motaquote is rolling out the ability to record your driving habits using a TomTom GPS unit, and use that data to set your car insurance rate. The idea is that the policy and pricing can be tailored to better reflect your specific driving, rather than base it off of actuarial tables. If you’re a “safe” driver you could be spending less, and if you’re an “unsafe” driver you could be spending more.
Google announced today that they’re making changes to their privacy policy to make it simpler, and unify all the disparate policies for their various products under one canonical document. One of the things that surfaced out of the trimming down of language was that users are unable to opt out of Google using certain data in your profile to customize its other services to your interests. While it may sound like a Big Brother shift in Google’s mindset, the reality is far more mundane.
