They’re back! After a three year hiatus (they last flew here in 2010), the tradition of the Blue Angels doing a show for Commissioning Week has been revived. Today (Tuesday) is practice day and tomorrow is the actual show.
I’ll be posting pictures and videos here of the Blue Angels over the next couple of days. Stay tuned!

Annapolis is expecting its first significant snow of the year today, with a forecasted 6-10” of accumulation. As usual, I’ll be putting up pictures and videos throughout the day.

I set up a time lapse camera in my living room to capture the accumulation. I’ll have footage from that up later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Anyone who’s spent time in Annapolis is likely familiar with the radio towers on Greenbury Point. The three remaining towers, at 800’ high each, are visible for miles and are a major landmark for residents and travelers. However, the towers as they stand today are just the remnants of what was once a massive complex of naval communications.
A YouTube channel called A History of the Navy in 100 Objects has produced a video that covers the history of the facility that stood for over 80 years.
Well the weather didn’t waste time ringing in the new year. Our first snow of 2014 arrived last night, giving us about 4-5 inches of snow in the Annapolis area.
The snow never got all that heavy, but it did bring very cold temperatures and plenty of wind.

By and large an uneventful storm, but a nice dusting of snow nonetheless :-)
Bros Get Wasted; Girls Get Tipsy: Why Boozy Talk Matters
I’ve known plenty of girls who use the same drinking language as guys, but apparently different language indicates different attitudes about alcohol.
The Pixar Theory
All Pixar movies exist on a timeline in the same universe. Mind-blowing.
Why Citizen Developers Are The Future Of Programming
Degrees aren’t as important to programming as many people think.
Today marks the twelfth anniversary since my family and I moved to Annapolis. I was 12 years old when we moved here, which means that I’ve now lived here for half my life. Being a military brat it’s still hard to imagine that I’ve really lived in one place for that long.
Staying in Annapolis was not originally part of my plan. When I was in high school my goal was to attend the Coast Guard Academy, commission as a Coast Guard officer and live anywhere & everywhere.
At this point in the year, I’m convinced the meteorologists in the Annapolis-Baltimore-DC area are playing jokes on us. This morning I woke up to the first actual snow we’ve had so far this year, despite a number of predictions that resulted in nothing but some rain. By the time I left my house there were already 2-3 inches on the ground, and it’s still falling steadily - all this despite a prediction of some wintry mix at worst for today.
The Washington, DC area is expecting some snow over the next 24-36 hours, and while accumulations won’t be significant (less than 12 inches), it’s likely to cause some disruptions. BGE is pre-positioning assets in preparation for power outages, and local emergency management agencies are setting up shelters and posting preparedness reminders. Annapolis & Anne Arundel County aren’t likely to see more than a few inches so the impact should be minimal, but it’s best to be ready nonetheless.
President Obama came to Annapolis today to meet with Democratic senators. He came on Marine One and landed at the Naval Academy, right outside my office. One of my coworkers had a DSLR with them and was able to get some good pictures of the President’s arrival.

This morning the Westboro Baptist Church staged a protest outside the Anne Arundel County Courthouse in Annapolis, MD. They came because today was the first day same sex marriages were officially legal, and could be conducted at the courthouse. Citizens from all over the area came out to counter-protest, and show support for the couples exercising their newly granted right.
